Founded in 1999, CLEARCorps/Detroit works to prevent lead poisoning and create Healthy Homes for children and families through programs, education and outreach, and policy work. CLEARCorps/Detroit is a member of the 501(c)(3) non-profit Southeastern Michigan Health Association and currently has four main programs. Healthy Homes + Asthma addresses asthma triggers in the home through products, education, and minor repairs. The Lead Safe Homes Program abates lead hazards from homes in Detroit. Our Refrigerator Replacement Program can replace any refrigerator built before 2001 owned by a DTE electrical customer in good standing. The Furnace Test ‘n’ Tune Program can perform a test and tuning of a furnace unit that may result in repairs or replacement. CLEARCorps/Detroit is federally, state, and privately funded.

Product
We facilitate the Lead Safe Home Program for the City of Detroit. In this program, we assist families with young children with grant money to renovate their homes to remove lead hazards. As part of this, we replace old wooden windows with new vinyl windows. This helps to decrease the amount of heat necessary to warm the home and lower natural gas usage. Additionally, we offer furnace test and tune ups to lower gas usage and refrigerator replacement so families can obtain energy efficient refrigerators to reduce electricity usage.
