The city of Detroit and DTE Energy partnered to construct more than 6,500 solar panels on 10 acres of City owned land culminating in one of the largest urban solar arrays east of the Mississippi.  This is a grid-tied solar system, and generates enough electricity to power over 450 homes.   The project also included the rebuilding of playground and picnic areas, educational outreach, and job training and placement—including the hiring of local workers for the construction phase and future solar jobs.
